Net zero carbon supply chain

SailGP is an annual, global racing league. Powered by Nature™. It is the world’s fastest racing in class with epic battles between nations and top athletes, cutting-edge technology and programs that set leading sustainability standards worldwide. Global climate change and carbon emissions are some of the biggest threats current and future generations will face unless unprecedented action is taken to limit global warming by 1.5 degrees. This requires the world to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

SailGP wants to help lead the way and showcase how businesses can achieve net zero by 2050. But that is not enough. The league wants to cut the time to achieve complete CO2 neutrality and sets this goal already for 2025 – through a commitment to go beyond best practices, inspiring communities and driving disruptive technological innovations in sport and events.

The efforts are on ever-more efficient methods and materials and pushing innovations to safeguard the seas and inshore waters. However, as 8 % of the global emissions are caused by trade-related freight transport, SailGP is also mindful of the emissions caused by their event’s related supply chains. With the environmental programme Net Zero Carbon Kuehne+Nagel offers SailGP a simple solution to neutralise the CO2 emissions of transport via transparent carbon emissions reports, CO2 emissions sensitive transport route planning and offsetting of remaining emissions via certified carbon credits from investments in nature based projects.

These verified environmental projects make sure that carbon dioxide gets absorbed from the atmosphere. The projects are certified according to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) or the Gold Standard and comply with UN sustainable development goals and support and improve basic living conditions in developing countries. Kuehne+Nagel is more than motivated to support the reduction of the carbon footprint in the supply chains of Sail GP.
