As a company conducting customs activities in the European Union, you need an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number as a business ID. The Finnish Customs is responsible for assigning the EORI number. The EORI number is required for all import and export customs declarations. Customs will reject the customs declaration if it doesn’t contain an EORI number. Individuals do not need an EORI number when importing or exporting goods.
The Finnish Customs will increase its EORI number checks in import customs declarations from the 2nd of September, 2023.
How to check the validity of an EORI number
From the Commission’s EORI number validation service you can check the validity of your EORI number. Finnish companies can check their EORI number by entering the country code FI + Business ID. Everything will be in order if your company’s EORI number is valid.
How to apply for an EORI number
Finnish companies need to apply for an EORI number from the Customs’ e-services: Applying for an EORI number. You can log in to the e-service by using Suomi.fi identification. Further information on how to identify yourself and grant mandates can be found on the Finnish Customs website.
