Back Strikes in Finland affect transportations at the beginning of February

Numerous strikes in Finland will cause schedule changes to our normal sea, air, and road transportations.

Five affiliated unions of the Central Organization of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) have announced industrial action that is targeted at air traffic. Political strikes oppose the Finnish government’s plans to weaken employee rights and social security.

Air traffic will stop at all major airports in Finland for two days on February 1-2, 2024. In addition to the air traffic strike, The Finnish Transport Workers' Union (AKT) has also announced large-scale strikes that affect almost all of its business sectors and will stop operations in Finnish ports. The industrial action will cause schedule changes to our normal sea, air, and road transportations.

Air logistics:

A significant part of flights will likely be canceled, but airlines have not yet announced cancellations. Delays in cargo handling at terminals are also expected. We will do our best to find alternative routes for shipments as needed. Because of this situation there might be delays and additional fees, which will be informed and agreed separately.

Sea logistics:

The strike in the stevedoring industry will interrupt the loading and unloading of vessels in Finnish ports 1.2.2024 from 6.00 am until 3.2.2024 6.00 am. Shipping companies have not yet announced changes to vessel schedules. We ask our customers to consider that containers cannot be picked up from or delivered to the ports during the strike.

Road logistics:

During the strike, unaccompanied trailers will not be handled at ports. Kuehne+Nagel has the option to ship export and import trailers as combinations within normal schedules for an additional fee.

It is also advisable to prepare for possible delays after the strike ends. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the strike.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Kuehne+Nagel representative.
