Back Political Strikes Still Ongoing in Finnish Ports

The strikes were supposed to end on Monday 1 April 2024. However, SAK-affiliated trade unions announced yesterday that they will continue the ongoing strikes until Monday 8 April 2024. The strikes will cause schedule and capacity changes to our normal sea and road transportations. The changes are also possible in air transportations.

The political strikes, which have been ongoing for over two weeks, were supposed to end on Monday 1 April 2024 at 6.00. However, The Central Organization of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) and its member unions, including the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union (AKT), announced yesterday that they will continue the political strikes until Monday 8 April 2024 at 6.00.

Sea logistics:
Loading and unloading of vessels in Finnish ports remain suspended until Monday 8 April 2024 at 6.00. We kindly ask our customers to note that containers cannot be picked up from or delivered to the ports during the strike. However, freight can still be moved with driver accompanied units. Additionally, LCL (groupage) shipments will be routed through Europe, allowing them to proceed with an additional fee.

Air logistics:
One airline has so far announced flight cancellations to and from Finland due to fuel distribution disruptions. The airline in question is Juneyao Airlines, which operates flights between China and Finland. Some air freight shipments include pick or delivery by road and ferry connection between Finland and Central Europe where changes in schedule might occur. Due to the strike, there might be unexpected delays and additional fees, which will be informed and agreed on separately.

Road logistics:
During the strike, unaccompanied trailers will not be handled at ports. Kuehne+Nagel has the option to, case-by-case, ship export and import trailers as combinations for an additional fee.

Congestion is expected at the terminals after the strike, so it is advisable to prepare for potential delays.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the strike.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Kuehne+Nagel representative.
